Hair Loss After Weight Loss Surgery

by Sheri Burke

How to prevent Hair Loss post weight loss surgery.

Hair loss after bariatric surgery is very common.  40% of patients experience it but don’t worry because it’s only temporary. Most patients notice hair loss starting 2 months after their operation, and lasting about 6 months before a slow return. This is a normal response to the stress of significant weight loss. It’s not like clumps of hair falling out and going bald, but for some people it is quite significant.

There are a couple things you can do to minimize hair loss:

  • stay up on your multivitamin recommendations
  • stay up on your protein intake recommendations
  • you can try adding biotin to your diet.

Some patients swear by it, many do not see any difference / doesn’t hurt to give it a try. Just remember, if you are one of the 40% of patients who experience hair loss, don’t fret, it’s only temporary.

What’s on the Menu Week 4 – Bariatrics

by Sheri Burke

Guess What, Solid food is back !  You’ve made it this far and it’s time to start eating real food.  This does not mean you get to eat whatever you want – you are still healing and wanting to reach your goal quickly.

Your diet will now consist of protein, vegetables, a limited amount of grains, and very little, if any, refined sugars should be added at this time.

Let’s chat about Week 4 which is Solid Foods.

This is your new healthy lifestyle so here are some tips for starting solid foods:

Introduce one new food at at time: ideally not more than one new food a day so you can gauge your body’s reaction.

Eat slowly.  Chew your food well, 15 seconds each bite.

Separate your food and water by at least 30 minutes.

Continue to drink at least 64 ounces of water a day.

Eat your protein first, vegetables second and carbs third.

The total caloric intake per day will usually range from 800 to 1,200 and up to 1,500 18 months after surgery.

Upon scheduling we will provide you with a detailed list of the four stages post op and what you should be consuming at each stage.

View our Bariatric Mini Series Videos discussing the stages of post op.

Understanding Dental Implants – What You Need To Know

by Sheri Burke

According to the data collected by the CDC on dental health, almost 27.4% of the people in America ignore their cares.

This ignorance of dental health leads to teeth and gum problems in their later year. This fact is confirmed by the same report which states that 62.4% of people over the age of 65 visit their dentist each year because they have severe dental problems.

From this 62.4%, a substantial number of people go for dental implants.

Dental Implants and Dental Care

Dental implants are artificial teeth roots which are placed in our jaw in lieu of a tooth which was lost, injured or damaged due to periodontal diseases.

The reason why dental implants are related to dental care is because most people who get said implants do not have enough awareness of it, in the same way as they did not have enough awareness of their overall dental health.

To help you get the complete gist of dental implants, International Patient Facilitators provides answers to some of the more common questions that patients ask.

Knowing Your Dental Implants

When Should I Get Dental Implants?

As said before, people get dental implants because they lose their teeth. Missing teeth never look as good as a full mouth of molars. And since a complete toothy smile can give you more confidence, you can choose to close the gap by getting an apt dental implant. It also doesn’t hurt that getting the implant will allow you to eat solid foods without worrying about them hitting your exposed root.

Could my Body Reject an Implant?

This does happen, but very rarely. Our jawbone readily accepts implants and usually does not cause problems. However, if you have any allergy to a titanium alloy, then you may face issues. Another situation in which your body could reject your implant is if you have poor dental hygiene, since bad dental health might lead to gum decay, which could cause structure failure when you get the implant.

Will My Implant Last?

Quality dental implants will last for up to 40 years, but only if they are taken care of properly. Dental implants need the same care as you would normally give to the rest your teeth, so you may need to take proper measures for hygiene, good products for dental care and yearly visits to the dentists so that they can help you maintain the implant.

When Should I Get an Implant?

The more you prolong the process of getting an implant after you lose your tooth, more painful the entire procedure will be. Over time, your bone can wear down and decay, which can cause the gums to become weak for the structure to be placed in. If so, the patient would have to get a bone graft before they get a dental implant, and that can be very painful.

Dental ImplantsAre there Age Limits for Implants?

Dental implants can be work for those who are over the age of adolescence, since they won’t have to face any issues of fit and placement as a younger patient would. Dental implants can be used by any patient who is healthy and prepared for a simple surgery.

Are Dental Implants Expensive?

Dental implants are quite expensive in the U.S., with just surgical fees requiring $2,000-$5,000 for just one tooth. This is why many patients who come to us often seek medical assistance in other countries so that they can afford the complete procedure without worrying about their bank account.

Now that you know the details of dental implants, contact International Patient Facilitators to explore different options of dental surgery in Mexico.

Myths about In-Vitro Fertilization – Explained

by Sheri Burke

According to a report released by the CDC on Fertility Clinic Success Rates; from the 208,604 assisted reproduction technology procedures (most common of which is IVF) that were procured by patients seeking fertility treatment, 57,323 resulted in live births.

With such a success rate for IVF, more and more people are opting to try this procedure of fertilization.

However, since it has become such a popular option, it is also no surprise that people are becoming concerned about the many myths that surround this technology.

If you have similar concerns about IVF, we at International Patient Facilitators dispel some of the more common issues.

Myths about In-Vitro Fertilization You Should Stop Believing

Myth#1 – IVF should be Your Last Option

Many couples choose IVF as an option when they learn that they cannot conceive the traditional way. In fact, along with IVF, these patients can choose from many ART treatments such as sperm donation, egg donation and surrogacy.

Myth#2 – Your Insurance will cover Your IVF Treatment

Sadly, this has not become a reality yet. Many insurers deny paying for infertility benefits, making the patient pay for the procedures. This is why these patients turn to medical facilities in other countries like Mexico so that they can afford the procedure without worrying about their bank account.

Myth #4 – You Have no Control over IVF

IVF is a procedure that pushes your body to become more fertile when you start. This makes many women believe that perhaps they are losing control over their bodies and are not going to be able to control the whole process. This is not the case though.

IVF can make WomenMany patients that opt for IVF can ask their doctors on how they should have an emotional and physical control on their own body functions. One way they can do so is by maintaining a healthy diet and pairing their daily activities with other less traditional relaxing approaches such as meditation and acupuncture.

Myth#5 – IVF can make Women Very Emotional

This is a common myth that doesn’t have much of a basis. The procedure of IVF involves having the patient injected with hormones that are not naturally occurring in their body. However, the hormones injected are actually packed with estrogen, which more often than not, only makes women feel happier than they normally would.

If the patient does display signs of volatile emotions, it is only because she is worried and stressed about the success of the cycle.

Myth#6 – IVF is ALWAYS Successful

The success of IVF depends on several key factors, which we’ve addressed in a previous blog. You need to be below 35 to have at least a 40% change of conception, and the quality of the embryos need to be adequate for the conception to take place.

Myths surrounding IVF are usually because people want to discourage women from choosing it. By dispelling them, we hope we have contributed in helping you make the right decision for your fertility issues.

For clients looking for IVF treatment in Mexico, we offer the very best doctors and trained staff that treats their infertility issues at prices far less than those in the U.S. or Canada. And through their qualification and treatment, many couples and individuals receive positive results.

If you feel like you have a chance of succeeding through IVF treatment, get in touch with us and find out more about our services.
