How Obesity Affects Your Body and Health

According to a study by WHO (World Health Organization), since 1980, the number of obese people has Healthdoubled worldwide.

According to their study, more than 1.9 billion adults are now overweight, with 600 million in the obese ratio. Because of the increase in weight and harmful fat, many obese people are now suffering from numerous health-related problems, some of which are listed below:

Health Effects of Obesity

Coronary Heart Disease

A rise in your body mass index can also increase the risk of coronary heart disease. This condition occurs when a waxy substance known as plaque starts building up inside the arteries. Since the arteries supply oxygen-rich blood to the heart, the blockages cause the blood flow to reduce. That in turn, can cause an angina or a heart attack.

High Blood Pressure

High blood pressure or hypertension is caused when the blood is forced against the walls of the arteries as the heart muscle pumps blood. The pressure with which the blood is forced can rise and stay risen for periods of time, which can damage the body in many ways.

Stroke

A stroke is caused when there is a plaque buildup in your arteries. When that plaque buildup ruptures, it causes a blot clot to form. When that clot gets close to your brain, it gets stuck as a block which narrows down the passage of blood and oxygen to your brain, which in turn, causes a stroke.

Diabetes – Type 2

Diabetes is a very common disease amongst overweight people. This disease occurs when the blood sugar level becomes too high in the body. Normally the body breaks down the food into glucose by using a hormone known as insulin.

However, in type-2 diabetes, the cells in our body fail to utilize insulin properly. And although first the body makes more insulin to combat this issue, overtime, the body fails to sustain the insulin needed to control the blood sugar level.

Cancer

Patients that are obese can also suffer from different types of cancer since the extra weight can increase the risk of colon cancer, breast cancer, endometrial and gallbladder cancer.

Osteoarthritis

Our bones and joints suffer a lot of pain due to the excessive weight gain; the most common areas affected being the knees, hips and lower back. This happens because the tissue that protects these joints wears away due to the added pressure, causing pain.

Sleep Apnea

As a common disorder, sleep apnea occurs in overweight people specifically when they have fat stored around the neck. The fat causes the airway to narrow, making it harder for the person to breathe. This causes the person to have shallow breaths when they sleep and can even result in pauses when they are breathing.

Reproductive Problems

There has been a direct correlation between obesity and reproductive problems. Obesity affects a woman’s menstrual cycle and can cause hormonal imbalances and ovulation issues, which can in turn, cause fertility problems. Being overweight can cause obese men to have a low sperm quality and erectile dysfunction.

So what’s the solutionSo what’s the solution?

For all these issues, the best way to combat obesity is not only by following a healthy diet and regime but also by opting for bariatric weight loss surgery.

5 IVF Success Factors

According to a study conduction by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about 12% of women5 IVF Success Factors between the ages of 15-44 experience difficulty in getting pregnant or carrying a pregnancy to term.

However, this issue isn’t just something that women alone are going through.

According to the same study, 7.5% of all sexually experienced men less than 45 also experience trouble with their fertility.

With so many people with fertile problems, it is no surprise that many couples seek to increase their chances through medical procedures such as IVF or in-vitro fertilization.

However, this procedure is not something that can be used by just anyone. There are several factors that impact a person’s chance of treating their fertility and genetic problems.

Top Factors that Affect Conception

1.      Age

Age is important if you want to increase your chances of getting pregnant. Younger women have a higher chance of getting pregnant than older. Those of a higher age will have fewer eggs which may be of a lower quality.

And while the chances of a IVF success for women under 35 is around 40%, for women over the age of 42, these chances drop down to only a 4% success rate since many women experience the early symptoms of menopause during this time.

2.      Types of Fertility Problems

Fertility problems can affect IVF success. Male infertility problems such as uterine abnormalities and fibroid tumors can reduce the likelihood of the sperm’s success of integrating in the IVF procedure.

Whereas for women, problems such as ovarian dysfunction, high FSH (follicle-stimulating hormone) levels and even hypertension can lead to a low ovarian reserve, which can reduce the chance of getting pregnant. Another issue that can reduce chances of IVF success is the treatment of ovarian problems through high amounts of ovulation stimulation drugs.

3.      Lifestyle Choices

Smoking can negatively impact your chances of IVF success, according to one study in the Oxford Journals. Research concluded that non-smoking women had an 85% chance of getting pregnant through IVF, whereas non-smoking men have a higher sperm count, lesser hormonal issues, and less chances of getting erectile dysfunction.

Along with smoking, obesity also can affect your chances, since the extra weight can cause strain on your organs. Basically, it is advised that you maintain a healthy regime.

4.      Previous Pregnancies

Your chances of getting pregnant through IVF can increase if you’ve already had a previous pregnancy. Patients who are undergoing IVF treatment can have a greater chance of success if they’ve already had a child with the same partner before. However, miscarriages or a different partner may reduce chances of a successful IVF rate.

5.      Choice of Fertility Clinic

Centers that cater to couples for fertility treatment can affect your chances of getting pregnant through IVF. IVF clinics in Mexico receive a steady stream of patients seeking treatment mainly because they know that they will get the right advice through a good doctor. Also, through proper treatment at IVF clinics, patients can use the opportunity to try for multiple children as well.

If you feel like you have a chance of succeeding through IVF treatment, get in touch with us. For clients who come to International Patients Facilitators, we offer the very best doctors and trained staff specifically to treat their infertility issues at prices far less than that in the U.S. or Canada. And through their qualification and treatment, many couples and individuals receive positive results.

Bariatric Pre.op Diet

Almost all patients are going to be nervous and stressed prior to a bariatric procedure in Mexico. Naturally we all love to eat. Even if we can drink all our nutrients through a straw, who would want to ? Many patients are “stress eaters” so “not eating” when they are stressed and anxious before bariatric surgery, makes things even a bit harder to comprehend.

Let’s talk now about the Infamous Pre Op Diet

Ultrasound based studies have proven that liver shrinkage does occur after the liver shrinking diet is performed. All the more reason to follow the guidelines as an engorged liver will make your surgeons job a lot easier and safer.

A lot of patients are diabetes so controlling blood surgery and caloric intake through the liquid diet will improve these conditions. If blood sugar is controlled, this decreases the risk of infection post op.

Patients are often found to have hernias. Bariatric surgeons can and will repair these hernias but enlarged livers can get in the way of the repair. Basically your surgeon can and will do a better job if you have followed the pre.op diet and your liver is out of the way.

Patients who are extremely obese, will be on an extended pre.op diet prior to surgery. The maximum is generally 3 weeks and the average patient will follow a 10 day pre op diet.

We need to understand that the pre.op diet is not to torture you, but it is to ensure that your surgery is a success with less chances for any complications to occur. Here is a sample of the pre.op diet which we require patients to follow prior to surgery.

What is a Pouch Reset?

What is a pouch reset?

What an amazing organ our stomach is. It expands to fit large quantities of food and then decreases back to its average size as the food is passed into the digestive tract. Even after bariatric surgery has been done, the stomach keeps stretching and contracting.

Today society is filled with food and we can easily eat until our stomachs can no longer stretch to hold more food. In the past, this was okay due to the scarceness of food when hunting and agriculture were not available all year long. But these days we keep eating so much everyday which causes our hunger and full signals to become distorted. Now we only consider ourselves full until we can no longer physically eat another bite.

Many people say that when you eat, the folds of tissue within your stomach, stretches, and with the constant amount of food entering our bodies, it does not return to its normal size. Your stomach then welcomes larger and larger amounts of food into it until you finally feel full.

A pouch reset is a tool used to help your stomach go back to its normal size which is done by majorly decreasing the amount of food entering our bodies.

How does it work?

The pouch imitates your immediate diet after surgery. Usually the average post gastric surgery diet lasts 1 to 2 months and has four or five stages. The pouch reset lasts a little over a week but uses similar guidelines. You must remember that you are cutting down the amount of food you eat so it’s recommended that you follow this process with help of your nutritionist.

If you would like a copy of the pouch reset, reach out to us and we will send it to you:

  1. Soften cream cheese in large mixing bowl.
  2. Beat on medium speed with mixer, gradually add yogurt, vanilla extract, and Splenda or sugar substitute.
  3. Whip on high until light and fluffy.
  4. Use as a dip for your choice of fruit such as peaches, melon, apple slices, or pears.

Don’t Ignore Too Tight Jeans.

This isn’t necessarily about regain, its about restarting. In those first seven months after surgery, nothing can stop the weight from falling off, but then it all stops and its then up to us. If old habits have not been redirected, this is how you start losing again.

Going on a diet is different from the old pre op days. Back then, it was a slow painful process that took months for results because we had to lose a good forty pounds before anyone even noticed because of proportions. Face it, ten pounds is not a big dent when you weight 300 pounds. But post op dieting actually produces results fairly quickly and feels successful. Plus the pouch gives us an edge.

Rise Up and Take Control

1. Grab a Friend ! Talk your girlfriend, spouse, sister, neighbor into losing five pounds with you. Friendly Competition is good and Peer Pressure makes you exercise harder.

2. Stop Buying Bread. Sound too simple? It is! It’s a no brainer in fact. If there isn’t any bread you can’t eat it. When there aren’t any crackers, you can’t eat them.

3. Blab & Obligate Yourself.  Tell all close to you that you are recommitting to losing pounds.  Say what you do – do what you say.

4. Stop eating White Foods.  No potatoes, bread, pasta, crackers, chips, rice, sugar, & tortillas. These foods are full of carbs and calories with few nutrients.

5. Get out the Small Plates  Even with a four ounce stomach we can overeat soft or slider foods. On your small plate should be 4 or 5 ounces of protein and as much salad & vegetables that will fit.

Bariatric surgery is not easy nor is it the easy way out. It takes time to get used to these changes and it take strength and dedication.

5 Factors To Consider Before Going For Cosmetic Surgery In Mexico

Once considered a taboo in society, cosmetic surgery is now a booming business across the world, especially in Mexico. According to the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, Mexico was among the top 5 countries that performed the most cosmetic surgical and nonsurgical procedures in 2014. This is primarily because of the affordable cost in the country.

Millions of women and men undergo different types of cosmetic procedures, such as breast augmentation, rhinoplasty, Botox, etc., to rejuvenate their appearance. That being said, cosmetic surgery is a serious decision that involves some risk of complications.

If you are contemplating cosmetic surgery in Mexico, it’s critical to take into account the following factors to achieve the best possible results:

Are you in good general health?

Cosmetic surgery is a life-altering surgery. Before you opt for it, consider your health. If you have a medical condition – diabetes, heart problems or high blood pressure – then elective surgery should be avoided.

Even for liposuction, you need to be healthy before you consider surgery.
At times, patients need to adopt a healthy lifestyle rather than go under the knife to improve their appearance.

What do you really want?

What’s the purpose of the surgery? Make sure you know why you want cosmetic surgery. Are you contemplating surgery to save a rocky relationship? The truth is that cosmetic surgery can’t make your problems disappear.

In addition, try to establish realistic goals. How is it going to benefit you in the long run? Ask yourself. Consider your lifestyle, health and finances to assess if you are ready for it.

Do you want a drastic change? Or do you want to improve certain features? If you want a dramatic body or facial change, you might want to reassess your reasons for considering cosmetic surgery.

The goal of cosmetic surgery is to enhance your facial and body features, not change your looks. Don’t expect miracles to take place.

Cosmetic surgery can’t make you young again

Aging is a natural part of life. While procedures like Botox can reduce signs of aging, such as wrinkles and fine lines, it can’t stop your aging clock altogether. Remember, cosmetic surgery can temporarily improve your looks. It can’t halt the aging process.

Research your options

Start researching licensed and board certified cosmetic surgeons in Mexico. Check for their qualification, training, and specializations. Apart from the surgeon’s website and online reviews, ask your contacts for recommendations.

Discuss your concerns

Once you have chosen a reputable cosmetic surgeon, schedule a consultation with them. Ask them anything you want. Discuss all your concerns and questions with them. Discuss in details the cost, risks and recovery related to the procedure.

If you need cost-effective cosmetic surgery in Mexico, get in touch with us. We can help you gain access to leading cosmetic surgery centers in Cancun and Tijuana, Mexico. Whether you need a face lift or breast augmentation, we can help you find the best surgical treatments for your cosmetic needs.

Much success in your journey.
