Understanding Dental Implants – What You Need To Know

by Sheri Burke

According to the data collected by the CDC on dental health, almost 27.4% of the people in America ignore their cares.

This ignorance of dental health leads to teeth and gum problems in their later year. This fact is confirmed by the same report which states that 62.4% of people over the age of 65 visit their dentist each year because they have severe dental problems.

From this 62.4%, a substantial number of people go for dental implants.

Dental Implants and Dental Care

Dental implants are artificial teeth roots which are placed in our jaw in lieu of a tooth which was lost, injured or damaged due to periodontal diseases.

The reason why dental implants are related to dental care is because most people who get said implants do not have enough awareness of it, in the same way as they did not have enough awareness of their overall dental health.

To help you get the complete gist of dental implants, International Patient Facilitators provides answers to some of the more common questions that patients ask.

Knowing Your Dental Implants

When Should I Get Dental Implants?

As said before, people get dental implants because they lose their teeth. Missing teeth never look as good as a full mouth of molars. And since a complete toothy smile can give you more confidence, you can choose to close the gap by getting an apt dental implant. It also doesn’t hurt that getting the implant will allow you to eat solid foods without worrying about them hitting your exposed root.

Could my Body Reject an Implant?

This does happen, but very rarely. Our jawbone readily accepts implants and usually does not cause problems. However, if you have any allergy to a titanium alloy, then you may face issues. Another situation in which your body could reject your implant is if you have poor dental hygiene, since bad dental health might lead to gum decay, which could cause structure failure when you get the implant.

Will My Implant Last?

Quality dental implants will last for up to 40 years, but only if they are taken care of properly. Dental implants need the same care as you would normally give to the rest your teeth, so you may need to take proper measures for hygiene, good products for dental care and yearly visits to the dentists so that they can help you maintain the implant.

When Should I Get an Implant?

The more you prolong the process of getting an implant after you lose your tooth, more painful the entire procedure will be. Over time, your bone can wear down and decay, which can cause the gums to become weak for the structure to be placed in. If so, the patient would have to get a bone graft before they get a dental implant, and that can be very painful.

Dental ImplantsAre there Age Limits for Implants?

Dental implants can be work for those who are over the age of adolescence, since they won’t have to face any issues of fit and placement as a younger patient would. Dental implants can be used by any patient who is healthy and prepared for a simple surgery.

Are Dental Implants Expensive?

Dental implants are quite expensive in the U.S., with just surgical fees requiring $2,000-$5,000 for just one tooth. This is why many patients who come to us often seek medical assistance in other countries so that they can afford the complete procedure without worrying about their bank account.

Now that you know the details of dental implants, contact International Patient Facilitators to explore different options of dental surgery in Mexico.
