Do You Know What You Should Eat After Your Cosmetic Surgery?

by Sheri Burke

Eating healthy is important for a number of reasons. How else are we supposed to improve our immune system, maintain a healthy weight, and keep organs and tissues functioning at optimal levels?

Nutritious and well-balanced foods have the power to nourish and heal. Bottom line: it’s important to eat right especially after cosmetic surgery.

Eating Healthy After Surgery – Why Is It Important?

It helps support our body’s healing system. Other physiological functions are also positively affected including nutrient absorption, digestion, cell repair, and others. Eating healthy and well-balanced meals is equally important, not just for plastic and cosmetic surgery, but other surgical procedures as well.

For instance, foods like dark leafy greens and fatty fish help fight inflammation. Certain foods high and saturated fat can increase inflammation. Similarly good blood circulation is encouraged by oranges, ginger root, and garlic.

Foods to Eat After Cosmetic Surgery

The most important food groups you must have after cosmetic surgery are:

Fiber

Constipation is a common complaint after surgery. Qualified nutritionists at International Patient Facilitators instruct patients to eat plenty of fiber-laden foods. Prevent this complication by avoiding dehydrated or dried foods, processed foods, cheese and dairy products, red meats and sweets.

Protein

Amino acids found in protein helps with tissue regeneration and wound healing. Consuming lean protein such as chicken, seafood, and turkey following surgery can also aid in increasing strength and energy

You can also get your daily protein intake from eggs, nuts, beans and tofu. Add protein powder to drinks and fruit smoothies if having trouble getting enough from your diet.

Vitamins C & E

While all vitamins are important, vitamin C and E are especially helpful after surgery. Vitamin C aids in tissue repair and collagen re-growth, which speeds up healing and recovery time.

Excessive scarring and incision site complications are also minimized. An antioxidant, vitamin E defends the body against additional damage. Food sources are best at providing the necessary vitamins and minerals; try adding vitamin C dense citrus fruits, berries, bell peppers, and cruciferous vegetables (broccoli) to your diet. Get your daily dose of vitamin E from seeds, eggs, nuts, and some plant derived oils.

Healthy and Simple Recipe for Great Skin – Avocado & Egg Pizza

This is an amazingly simple recipe that can be made for lunch or breakfast. Not only will you eat healthy but you get to eat pizza!

Ingredients

  • Pocket-less pita bread
  • Egg
  • Avocado
  • Lemon juice
  • Olive oil
  • Salt and pepper

Preparation

Pop the pita bread into the toaster, while you fry an egg. Take out the bread when nicely toasted. Mash avocado into a bowl, drizzle some lemon juice and olive oil. Spread this mixture on the toast and place fried egg on top. Sprinkle salt and pepper according to taste and enjoy!

Use a smaller plate ,, and other not so crazy food tricks

by Sheri Burke

Reason your way through your impulse eating and cravings rather than just jumping off the ledge.

Give these suggestions some consideration. They’ll help you reduce your calorie intake, have greater control and make better choices based on the science of tricking the brain.

Use Small Plates!

If you put two identical portions of food on a small plate and big plate, the portion on the bigger plate will look smaller, and vice versa. Our brains are truly fooled by this, even when we know they are the same. Stare at the two plates in the photo above. The giant plate is almost empty, a bit of rabbit food… not a fun evening at all! BUT, the Small Portion Plate is filled with lovely goodies… sliced egg and cheese, a great meal.

No Plastic Please

Latest research shows that the weight of the silverware and plate have a significant effect on our appreciation for meals we eat; with heavier plates, knives and forks offering even greater levels of satiety. Who would think that?

Bottom Line

Serve your meals on a small, heavy dish and eat with a heavy fork, spoon and knife. We need gather as much strength on our side to beat this one. Why not try it!

Make it difficult to eat

While it may look a little silly, when we eat with our opposite hand we eat less. But if you are like me, you’d end up with your steak in your lap. So instead, try using a Japanese soup spoon, chopsticks or a shrimp cocktail fork – anything that slows you down. Slow mindful eating is the goal.

No more TV dinners

We eat almost twice as much when we’re watching television or texting. Try rolling things back to a simpler time – turn off the TV, put the phone in the other room, actually sit at your dining table and enjoy your meal. Take a break for supper time.

Eat with your Nose

Take a deep breath over your food and notice the aroma. Hold your warm bowl in your hands, chew slowly, pay attention to the flavor and texture and you’ll take in fewer calories. Our brains use the amount of sensation we receive from food as a cue to tell us when to stop eating.

The easiest way to lose weight and stay there is to eat foods that promote satiety and keep you full. Master these proven tricks to turn Fatbrain around and get her working with you – on your side – beside you.

Hair Loss and Biotin

by Sheri Burke

Hair loss after bariatric surgery is very common and can bring stress to men and women. While we all want to achieve great weight loss results, there are some potential risks associated with having this type of surgery. Hair loss related to bariatric surgery is known as Telogen Effluvium and is associated with the normal hair growth cycle.

Anlagen, the growth phase, is the place where nearly 90% of our hair is in at any time. The resting phase known as Telogen lasts about 1 to 6 months. With 5-15% of our hair in this resting phase, stress or any hormonal changes to the body can cause more hair to go into the resting phase. This is the type of hair that bariatric surgery patients are most likely to shed. Once hair starts to grow again, mature hair follicles are released and then the patient loses that hair.

Most often hair loss results from surgery, low-calorie intake and also low protein intake. Add any illness such as vitamin deficiencies or an under-active thyroid and you have hair loss.

Suggestions for Hair Growth
While hair loss may last for several months after nutrition and a regular diet begin again, patients can expect steady hair growth again.

Vitamins & Supplements
Always follow the dietary instructions given to you following surgery as limited calories and low protein can lead to continued hair loss. Also, take a multi-vitamin regularly, take vitamin D3 and take biotin to help prevent hair loss.

Biotin
A deficiency in biotin can lead to more than just hair loss, but fatigue, numbness and tingling in the hands and feet and a red rash. While the deficiency is rare, it can lead to continued hair loss. Many patients have added a biotin supplement into their daily vitamin routine because of its positive results.

Bariatric Snacking

by Sheri Burke

Developing healthy eating habits is necessary for making the most of bariatric surgery. The surgery can only be successful if you turn over a new leaf, adhering to a nutritious diet. After the surgery, there will be physical restrictions on your body, and if you ignore them reverting to your old eating habits, you will fall sick.  However, does it mean that you cannot consume snacks after the surgery? Continue reading to find out the types of snack you can eat after bariatric surgery.

Snacking Between Meals
You must learn to differentiate between psychological hunger caused by craving of particular foods and actual hunger. If you are truly experiencing physical hunger, then you may have snacks. But there are restrictions. Do not eat a snack that is rich in carbohydrates. In fact, chew upon slowly and thoroughly a protein rich snack. Also take note the calorie rich drinks like soda, and juice will not satiate your hunger, and will not provide your body with sufficient nutrients either. Therefore, it is important that when you are snacking between meals, you are consuming a meal that is substantial.

Delicious Snacks That You Can Devour
Sugary delights and carbohydrate rich diet sure are enticing but they are detrimental to your health. Even if you think that you are consuming them in temperance, their intake can be catastrophic in cutting down calories. These foods will only fill you up for a short time. On the contrary, you may have delicious healthy snacks. Here is what you should have in order to satiate your hunger:

Lean Meats
You may consume lean meats, such as poultry items without the skin -baked turkey, Cornish hen, and chicken. Beef flank and steak in appropriate serving, and centre loin or tenderloin of pork. A single slice of your favourite deli meat with diced veggies, and low fat cheese is not just fulfilling but healthy as well.

Nuts, Veggies and Fruits
Eat a few walnuts or almonds, or veggies like carrots, celery with tuna. Olives are also a good tasty snack in between meals. You can also eat fresh organic fruits with low fat cottage cheese. Apples with peanut butter, celery with cashew butter are really healthy alternatives.

Scrambled Eggs
Just make scrambled eggs – a hassle free healthy and nutritious snack!

Looking For a Good Bariatric Surgery Facility in Mexico? These Essentials Will Help Find You One

by Sheri Burke

Traveling to another country for a weight loss surgery can no doubt be intimidating.

There’s no denying that.

Similarly, there is also no denying the fact that the world is getting smaller; more and more people are now choosing to visit Mexico for Bariatric Surgery, to receive the same level of expertise and care that they would have received in the U.S.—at practically half the cost.

Not sure where to start looking? That is where International Patient Facilitators comes in.

What Makes a Bariatric Facility Reliable?

  •  Reputation

When gathering information, find a facility that has a good reputation online. Check their reviews and start making notes of the smaller details. From surgeons and hospitals to medial tourism company, you’ll be able to find exactly what you need so you can make a quick decision.

  •  Certified Surgeon

This is important. Your surgeon needs to be certified in order to practice in Mexico. They need a license issued by the Mexican government and need to display enough experience. Again, you will have to rely on research to learn about the team of doctors and nurses that will be assisting them during the surgery.

Complication Rate: Having performed thousands of bariatric procedures in their career; it’s highly unlikely that they never had to deal with complication. Find the surgeon’s complication rate and protocol for serious complications.

  •  Reliable Hospital

Is the hospital set up for any emergency situation? Is it certified?

Check out the hospital using a mapping site and make note of how the hospital looks through street view. Keep in mind that the hospital may be smaller than what you are used to in other countries.

  •  After-Care Facilities

Although you can’t expect hotel-style after care facilities, you will need to know if the facility offers the most basic amenities. Check their website and reviews to know if they staff qualified nurses, and determine where you will be staying for the days after your procedure. Also check if there are any security issues in the area and find out if they offer 24-hour security.

  •  Check Our Website

As a reliable medical tourism company, we’ve listed some of Mexico’s most talented surgical teams and professionals for your convenience. Our mission is to provide you with the best information and sources so you can locate not just the most affordable health care service, but also the best.

If you’re seeking a reliable bariatric weight loss facility in Mexico, we urge you to contact us and let us guide you.

Eat Like a Bariatric Expert with our Nutrition Plans.

Nobody said it was going to be easy but I promise you it’s worth it !

Cost Of Weight-loss Surgery – Is It More Expensive in the U.S or Mexico?

by Sheri Burke

In comparison, medical treatment in Mexico costs substantially less than they do in the U.S. But before we dive into the details, let’s explore the exact estimate.

Countries Gastric Bypass Surgery Gastric Sleeve Surgery Lap Band Surgery
United States $24,600+ $19,500+ $15,000+
Canada $20,000+ $19,000+ $21,000+
Mexico $6,900+ $4,500+ $4,500+

As you can see, the estimates differ greatly when compared with the costs of bariatric surgery in countries like the United States and Canada.

Why is Bariatric Treatment in Mexico Inexpensive?

  •  Lower Cost of Living

A doctor’s salary in Mexico is a lot less than that of doctors in the U.S. Smaller salaries equal lesser rates, which in turn, lowers the cost of bariatric procedures.

  •  Less Paperwork

While the United States does require a lot of paperwork before treatment even starts, Mexico simply requires the most crucial of documents, eliminating the need for paperwork.

  •  Larger Facilities

Facilities in Mexico are much larger. Many physicians are able to share the expenses associated with the use of a medical practice. The same cannot be done in the United States since the facilities are privately owned.

  •  Lower Malpractice Insurance

If a patient sues a surgeon in Mexico, they only receive compensation for the losses that were caused due to actual damage. That is quite different than the United States, since patients may file a lawsuit against their surgeons for actual and punitive damages as well.

  •  Less Expensive Tests

Basic medical procedures like urine tests, blood work and other forms of examination cost a lot less in Mexico. In addition, the cost of prescription drugs is relatively less than other countries as well.

Understanding Medical Costs

Due to the above factors, the lower costs of surgery in Mexico explain itself. Thanks to their own policies and influx of professional medical examiners, Mexico presents itself as a hub of quality healthcare.

However, keep in mind that this includes only medical fees. Air travel, food and lodging may increase the total cost. Nevertheless, that would have to depend on your living and travel choices.

Consider Mexico for Your Bariatric Procedure

If you’re thinking of choosing Mexico or Tijuana for your weight-loss procedure, allow International Patient Facilitators to guide you. We are a trusted source, helping patients seek medical assistance. Call us today at 1 800 210 5124.
