What about Kombucha?

by Sheri Burke

It’s getting so confusing nowadays!  Eat this, but not that and don’t forget to add a little of this. It is more difficult to figure out what you should eat, and it seems as though new foods keep popping up with so many additional health benefits. Sometimes these newbie foods leave many people running to the nearest grocery store for the latest and greatest, but are they going to do what they promise to do ?

Let’s take a look at Kombucha.

What about Kombucha?

Kombucha is a fermented green or black tea which has been around for more than 1,000 years. It is made from sugar sweetened tea that has been fermented by symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast. This tea is acidic and it contains sugar, B vitamins and many antioxidants.

There are so many claims about this tea, showing health benefits of treating illnesses, stimulating the immune system, reversing gray hair and much more, question is ,,, are they true? There have not been very many studies on this, and most have been on our furry four legged friends. At this current time, the claims are not founded. There needs to be more scientific tests performed to be sure about the real health benefits.

Adverse effects have also been associated with kombucha, possibly due to the fermentation of the tea and the bacterial content of tea. Be careful if you choose to drink this tea. It’s best to take extra care.

Conclusion:

There are so many products available these days. It takes a savvy shopper, label reader, and nutrition guru to determine what works. We can’t possibly cover all of them in one article, but here are a few tips to think about:

    •  Look at the label: The less ingredients on the list, the better. Look for ingredients you are aware of or at least can pronounce.
    • Don’t believe everything you see online: There is a lot of good information on the Internet, and there is a lot of not-so-good information. Go to a trusted site for your information. When in doubt, ask. Find a nutritionist or health professional to answer your question.
    • Back to basics: You really can’t go wrong with fruits, vegetables, dairy and protein. Sometimes that’s all you need. There really is no such thing as a magic food.

At the end of the day, do the best you can. No one is perfect. Small steps and changes can make a huge impact in your overall health!

Allow the bariatric experts to help you if you need support. Please reach out every opportunity you get with every question that you have – it’s not just our work to assist you.  We actually celebrate in seeing you succeed.

Food Prep Pre and Post Bariatric Surgery

by Sheri Burke

Meal planning, wow – we know we have to get it done but it can be such a drag.  You need to sit down and go over different recipes, then write up a meal plan and make a shopping list ,,, finally we get to the grocers and it’s already been hours of prep !  we still need to pay for the food, get it home, get it all unpacked and then the work really begins.  Who wants to cook and prep after that ?

The whole process can be less time consuming and can become a form of artwork.  What’s the good news ?  Well, it gets easier over time and can make your “food life” more enjoyable and more simple.  There are a bunch of ways to plan your meals.  Just half the fight is to determine which system works best for you.

Below are a few ways to meal plan – take it, mold it, share it and make it your very own!

Let’s Plan Our Meals.

Make one day a week your date to plan your meals on paper and make a different day the day to do the groceries.  This can prevent feeling overwhelmed with doing the process all in one day.  For example, if Sunday is your day to do your groceries, make Thursday or Saturday your day to write the menus.

On the big meal planning day, create a “dinners only” or “lunch only” menu. Why ?  Well, trying to look at each and every meal for a whole week is overwhelming because that is 21 meals to think about.  That’s a lot of menus to create.  If you focus on only dinners, lunch can be leftovers or something fast you know you like such as a pre-cooked chicken with fresh green peas.

It’s a great suggestion to sit down to Pinterest or Google to find bariatric friendly recipes.  Focus on the highest quality proteins and non-starchy vegetables.  When you get home with all your fresh healthy food, place your meal plan with the grocery list on the fridge – so you remember your healthy plan and exactly what you are going to prep.

If you cannot see yourself sitting down and doing a meal prep plan, there is always the option of purchasing pre-written menu plans.  Make certain that they are low carb and are post op bariatric specific meals in order to reach your goals.

Everything You Need To know About Bariatric surgery

by Sheri Burke

WHAT IS BARIATRIC SURGERY?

Bariatric surgery is a type of stomach or intestinal surgery performed to help extremely obese people lose weight.

WHEN IS IT NECESSARY?

Some people are under the assumption that bariatric surgery is a short cut to weight loss. That’s not true.

While a healthy diet & regular exercise are recommended for losing weight, in some cases surgery is the only option.

SIGNS YOU ARE THE RIGHT CANDIDATE FOR BARIATRIC SURGERY

Answer the following questions to see if you should proceed with surgery:

(i) Are you an obese adult?

(i) Do you have weight-related issues (high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes)?

(i) Are you ready to commit to making lifelong dietary changes after surgery?

(i) Are you healthy enough to have a general anesthesia operation?

TYPES OF BATRIATRIC SURGERIES

There are two main types of bariatric surgeries:

Gastric Sleeve

This procedure involves reducing stomach size so that the patient feels full with less food.

Gastric Bypass

Gastric bypass changes how your stomach & intestine handle the food you eat.

When Should You Consider a Forehead Lift?

by Sheri Burke

Old age doesn’t have to bring you down. Yet effects of aging are inevitable, at least on a physical level. The sun and other natural elements play havoc at aging skin, causing loss of elasticity and appearance of unsightly marks and spots.

The downward pull of gravity does the rest – giving rise to frown lines, wrinkling (across the forehead) and heaviness around the eyebrows.

Effects of aging are inevitable; yet the first signs appear on your face, often the brow and forehead! Sometimes even people in their late twenties or thirties aren’t spared the cruelty. Men and women are increasingly turning to various cosmetic procedures to battle these signs of aging; one of them is a forehead lift.

What Is A Forehead Lift?

Paired with an eyelid lift or face lift, this cosmetic procedure can do wonders for an aging face especially if all worry areas are concentrated on the upper half of the face. Also known as a brow lift, this cosmetic procedure helps by:

  • Making individuals look younger
  • Rejuvenating appearance of forehead area
  • Improve appearance of a furrowed brow
  • Reduce wrinkles and creases around forehead and eye area

Understanding This Cosmetic Procedure in Detail

Depending on the procedure, the cosmetic surgeon will perform under local anesthetic or extensive surgeries requiring a day visit and stay. You will be required to stay longer if considering forehead lift with other complementary cosmetic procedures.

Endoscopic Forehead Lift

This type of surgery has changed over the years. Newer and better technologies and techniques are always replacing the previous ones, making the procedure less invasive.

Today many cosmetic surgeons in Cancun prefer the endoscopic forehead lift. Other commonly performed procedures are the pretrichial brow lift and the direct brow lift.

Forehead Lift Surgery – When to Consider This Option?

There are many reasons why people prefer this cosmetic procedure. In addition, people who need to fix scars left over from injury can also talk to us. When is the right time to consider this cosmetic surgery?

  • When low or sagging eyebrow position creates an angry, tired, sad or grumpy appearance
  • When you have deep horizontal creases across the forehead
  • When you have furrows or frown lines, between eyebrows or across top of your nose
  • When you have fatty tissue or excess skin hanging over your eyes

Can’t afford to pay top dollar? Most people turn to Mexico for affordable cosmetic surgery. Don’t know where to start looking for a certified and skilled cosmetic surgeon in Cancun or Tijuana? International Patient Facilitators will facilitate you!

Weight-Loss Surgery vs. Fad Diets – Why One Works And The Other Doesn’t

by Sheri Burke

Added ‘lose weight’ to your New Year’s resolution? What comes next is a series of searches dedicated to “quick” and “fast weight loss tricks”. Fad diets.

You may have tried one or two in your quest for weight-loss. Or you might be considering making this important lifestyle choice, after getting inspired from celebrities and fitness trainers on Instagram.

It’s good that you have decided to take action to promote weight-loss but will fad diets work in your situation? Do such diets even offer positive and life-long results? Experts weigh in on this matter. The verdict: Fad diets don’t work! Here is why:

Fad Diets Offer Short-Term Results

Most fad diets are designed to be tried for only a short while. This means it’s easy to gain back weight (if it were shed at all) once you stop following it. Also, fad diets don’t change your regular eating habits forever; just for a short time.

Fad Diets Don’t Change Your Eating Behavior

Do you take second helpings of sugary desserts? Can you live without drinking sweet milky tea before bedtime? Do you think greasy burgers and fries taste better than a simple salad?

Losing weight will be a struggle if you don’t change your thinking and behaviors about food. Learning and adopting healthy, lifelong practices (portion control, eating only when you are physically hungry) will pave the way to healthy weight loss.

Fad Diets Are Misleading

Fad diets and some exercises provide misleading claims like “Lose Up to 10 Pounds in 10 Days” and “Detox Your Body in 7 Days”. It’s easy to get sucked in by these claims! After all, who wouldn’t want an easy fix at achieving required weight loss?

However, if you look closely at these gimmicks, you will see these diets aren’t completely true in regards to what they sell.

On the other hand, bariatric surgery offers numerous benefits and positive weight-loss results without the false claims! Some highlighted benefits of weight-loss surgery are:

  • Improved health
  • Control of high cholesterol
  • Reduced sleep apnea
  • Controlled blood pressure
  • Help against diabetes

Improved Quality of Life after Weight-Loss Surgery

In addition to the above highlighted health benefits, undergoing weight-loss surgery can help improve overall mood and psychological health. Seeing as how obesity and rapid weight gain negatively affects our mental state, patients that have chosen this option report decrease in their anxiety and depression, as well as a positive and energetic outlook on life.

There aren’t any studies that show fad diets really work, not for long-term at least. Bariatric surgery on the other hand offers positive, long-term and healthy weight-loss results that can be measured! Interested in having gastric band surgery? Find specialized and affordable bariatric surgeons in Mexico with the help of International Patient Facilitators!

Results of Liposuction – Before and After Surgery

by Sheri Burke

Trying to work your way at the top is difficult—whether it’s finding success in your work, relationships or healthy weight-loss. We all have different views of the ideal body but trying to achieve results is another matter!

Even with strict diets and exercise regimens, sometimes (nearly always) we can’t help but wonder if our excess fat could just melt away.

Liposuction – Your Answer to Safe Weight Loss

You may be exercising right; you may be even consuming protein and doing every little thing that guarantees effective weight loss.

Yet, for some reason, the stubborn pockets of fat on your waist and back still refuse to melt away!

Did you know you can even have disproportionate fat deposits even when at your ideal weight? Unsightly to look at, these deposits can ruin your entire appearance! Luckily liposuction is here to save the day, helping patients eliminate obstinate body fat to achieve a sleeker and proportionate body.

Aside from aiding in improving your bodily appearance, liposuction can also be used to treat certain medical conditions such as:

  • Benign fatty tumors (lipomas)
  • Axillary hyperhidrosis(excessive sweating in the armpit)
  • Lipodystrophy
  • Abnormal enlargement of the male breasts (gynecomastia)

Some FAQs about Liposuction Regarding Their Results in Different People

Liposuction offers different benefits and results to different bodied people. Overly large people may not see an apparent different in their bodies because liposuction isn’t the answer to obesity. You will still have to monitor your eating habits to keep off the lost fat.

As such, expert cosmetic surgeons have answered the most pressing liposuction questions:

Does This Procedure Offer Permanent Results?

The new body’s shape after the procedure is more or less permanent. It must be kept in mind that liposuction removes fat cells from trouble zones in the body. Those fat cells cannot re-grow in that area. However, if you gain even a moderate amount of weight after this procedure, your body will just be a larger version of the new shape.

How Much Weight Can Be Lost?

This is the first question in the minds of many people looking for quick and affordable cosmetic procedures.

However, liposuction isn’t a weight-loss procedure! Patients will find more success in losing weight with bariatric surgery. That being said, liposuction does help to enhance our bodily appearance and shape; however, don’t expect a dramatic change.

How Much Fat Can Be Safely Removed?

Maximum safe removal of fat is probably about 6 to 8 pounds. That is 3 to 4 in liters. An increased number of fat cannot be removed in a single day; that can make way for serious complications. It’s a good idea to divide liposuction sessions separated by 3 to 4 weeks if amount to be removed is bigger.

Liposuction isn’t the only answer to obesity; but it’s an excellent solution to enhancing a disproportionate body.

Talk to skilled cosmetic surgeons based in Mexico and find high quality and affordability under the same roof!
