• Committing to bariatric surgery requires that you prepare ahead of time by eating a healthy diet and ensuring adequate levels of physical activity. Pre-surgery diet changes are needed to help you lose a small amount of excess body weight prior to surgery and to have better eating habits to help you lose weight after surgery and help you keep the weight off after surgery. Following the nutritional recommendations may help you demonstrate that you are able to make a commitment to the changes you will need to continue to follow lifelong.
• What bariatric surgery is not going to do for you is keep your weight off . You will need to be physically active and monitor your food intake in order to keep your weight off.
Physical activity is equally important in your weight loss journey. Physical activity will help you with weight loss before surgery and will help you keep the weight off long term.
• Start slowly and build up to at least 60 minutes 5 days per week. You can divide your physical activity routine during the day.
