Tummy Tucks Post Weight Loss Surgery – Bariatric Edition

We all wonder about it … what happens to all that skin around the tummy when massive weight loss occurs.  While it can seem obvious, it’s important to point out that people who are planning to lose a lot of weight are not considered good candidates for the tummy tuck procedure.  The tummy tuck is for the candidate who is already at their ideal weight.  Some people may be looking at having a tummy tuck to help them with weight loss – this will not be a good tummy tuck candidate.

The tummy tuck or in medical terms “abdominoplasty” is a common cosmetic procedure which involves removing excess skin from the abdomen area.  The surgeon also tightens up the underlying muscles so that there is a new internal garment supporting the stomach wall.  Many weight loss surgery clients will find that the years of fighting obesity has stretched the skin to what is considered beyond the ability to respond post weight loss.

Skin can hang for some people and can form a flap which is called an apron or a pannis.  This can even go beyond cosmetic and become a health issue which can affect the ability to perform normal daily activities or to even maintain basic hygiene.

There will be certain situations where liposuction will be a recommended procedure during the tummy tuck procedure.  Some patients may hold onto hard to lose deposits of body fat and this is where liposuction is a good procedure to be performed at the same time as the tummy tuck.

Dr. Sergio Soberanis and Dr. Javier Garcia have over 20 years experience performing many different techniques and styles of tummy tucks and they will recommend the best solution in your specific case.

Through photos and health forms and video conferences, we can determine exact pricing and styles of tummy tucks for your specific case.  Reach out to the experts.

Some Perks of Breast Reductions – Bariatric Edition

When thinking of a breast reduction, generally you are wanting to get smaller breasts but the breast reduction can be so much more.  To start with, breast reduction enables women to get a better, more comfortable size but there are additional perks and added benefits.

To start with when a breast reduction is performed, it involves removing excess tissue – This mens that the skin is removed as well as your breasts are repositioned to a higher, better position on the wall of your chest.  As a final result, breasts are firmer more youthful and in a better proportion with the rest of your body.

Most women have a bit of breast asymmetry.  Some women have this more pronounced than others.  If you have this sort of situation you can discuss it with your plastic surgeon and he can make corrections during the breast reduction to have both breasts looking more symmetrical.

Generally when a woman has very large breasts, they also have very large areolas.  During a breast reduction, the areoles can be made smaller to give a more balanced look to the new sized breasts.

Commonly large breasts cause severe discomfort in the back, neck and shoulders.  Some women have such severe pain that they are no longer able to participate in sports such as biking or running.  A reduction in the size of the breasts can enable women to get back to participating in the sports they like.

A perk of having a breast reduction is the bonus of being able to update your wardrobe to clothes that you were unable to wear due to the plunging necklines and sheer see through tops.  Regular sized breasts means being able to shop with the masses and follow the styles of today.

Cosmetic Surgery Post WLS – Bariatric Edition

Let’s chat a bit about what happens after we lose 100 lbs. The goal in the beginning may be to lose weight and get healthy again and many bariatric clients achieve this goal and they are extremely happy with their appearance and then there are others who feel that their skin elasticity has changed a bit and things could be improved with cosmetic surgery.

Sometimes we have loose skin and sometimes we do not.  This is going to depend a lot on our skin, and our age and our genetics.  For those who have terrific skin and youth on their side, a lot of the times there is not any hanging skin and things take on a new shape very easily.

There are patients who have undergone gastric sleeve, or similar procedures, and are left with loose skin around the stomach, buttocks, back, arms, or thighs. Rashes and sores can develop on loose skin that folds onto itself. In addition, the hanging skin creates an awkward shape that makes it hard for these patients to find clothes that fit properly. And then there’s the dangling arm skin. For all these reasons, bariatric patients often go on to have further, corrective surgeries.

For those who feel that they have the need or desire to have excess skin removed after major weight loss, we have a program that is set up just for them.

Allow us to provide you with all the information you require. We are dedicated to helping you feel confident in your skin.  We understand your goals and vision.  We are here for you every step of the way.  Reach out  to us to request a complete price-list and detailed information for your cosmetic surgery journey.

Most Commonly Asked Questions Regarding Bariatric Surgery

We at International Patient Facilitators have been connecting patients with reliable doctors across the border, so that Americans can have safe and affordable bariatric surgery for weight loss.

Bariatric surgery is a quick and easy way to rapidly loss weight. However, certain complications related to the procedure worry patients. To clarify any ambiguities, here are the most commonly asked questions about bariatric surgery:

I’m I eligible for bariatric surgery?

There are generally four conditions which makes anyone eligible for a bariatric surgery:

  • A BMI (body mass index) of more than 40
  • Males who are 100 pounds overweight and females who are 80 pounds overweight
  • Serious obesity-related conditions like heart diseases, diabetes and high cholesterol
  • Repeatedly failing to lose weight through other means

If you identify yourself with any of these four conditions, you are eligible for a bariatric surgery.

How long will I be in the hospital?

Laparoscopy has completely changed bariatric surgeries and patients can walk away after the surgery just one night of the surgery. However, individual conditions may vary.

How soon will I be back to my job?

On an average, it takes around 2 to 4 weeks for patients before they can start their normal routine. This is mainly because the nutrition intake drops significantly and patients feel weakness for one or two weeks post-surgery.

When can I start exercising?

The exercising starts immediately after the surgery, as patients are made to walk. In case of laparoscopy, patients are able to walk only a few hours after the surgery.

However, when it comes hitting the gym, weight lifting and swimming, you will need to wait at least 6 weeks so that your body heals completely and you experience a significant stability in your weight.

Will I experience hair loss after surgery?

For reasons still unknown, patients do experience hair loss for 2 to 5 months after the surgery. However, this hair loss is temporary and can also be avoided with adequate vitamin and protein intake.

Is it safe to become pregnant after bariatric surgery?

Usually, a period of 18 months is recommended to get pregnant as the body weight is not stable until then. If a baby is conceived far too early, there is a danger of malnutrition in the baby, as well as the mother.

Women tend to experience increase in fertility as birth control pills do not work well during rapid weight loss. So an alternative method of contraception should be used in order to prevent an unhealthy pregnancy.

Is bariatric surgery painful?

Patients experience a little pain after surgery and are prescribed oral medication to cope with it. However, majority of the patients do not consider pain to be a major problem at the time of recovery.

A Closer Look at Aesthetic Surgery in Mexico

The Cosmetic Plastic Surgery Statistics Report released by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons states that 1,780,987 aesthetic surgery procedures were performed in the year 2016. Furthermore, $16.4 billion were spent on these cosmetic procedures.

With such a massive turnover, the industry for plastic surgery takes a large number of patients each year, providing them with the necessary services they require. However, even with this number of procedures being performed each year, there are still many who are not able to acquire a reliable source for their cosmetic surgery.

Cosmetic Surgery in Mexico

The International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery ranks Mexico as the 5th location for number of surgical and non-surgical cosmetic procedures. Most of the patients travelling to Mexico come from Canada and US.

Now, though from the above statistics, you may consider that most people do not need to travel in order to receive the medical care they need. However, the following factors prove why Mexico is now considered as one of the best locations for quality plastic surgery.

Overall Cost

The average cost of a face-lift is $6,450. This is a substantial sum, especially when compared to $2,500 in Mexico. Plastic surgery in Mexico is far more affordable, simply because the board-certified doctors and nurses charge a fraction of the actual cost. This is the main reason why many patients fly to Mexico for their procedures. Because of the economic differences as well as universal healthcare, Mexican healthcare professionals are able to offer all they need for various procedures.

Quality of Care

If you do your research right, you can probably find a top-notch source for your medical treatment. Mexican health care facilities are maintained and take care of. They also use state of the art equipment to ensure patients that they’re getting their money’s worth. That – combined with qualified board-certified doctors– provides patients with a reliable source for their treatment.

Proximity

Perhaps another reason why Mexico is considered to be one of the best destinations for medical procedures is because of its closeness to home in general. Patients from the US and Canada have no problem gaining entrance into Mexico, which cuts down on finances related to traveling. This makes Mexico a more comfortable option, than India or China.

Aesthetic Procedures Performed in Mexico

The most common procedures performed in Mexico include:

  • Weight loss surgery (body contouring surgeries performed after bariatric surgery)
  • Liposuction
  • Eyelid surgery
  • Breast augmentation
  • Rhinoplasty
  • Abdominoplasty

Aside from these, Mexican clinics provide plenty of other services. You can do your research by using International Patient Facilitators as your guide.

The Bottom Line…

There has been a surge in the number of patients traveling to Mexico for their procedures and for good reason. And by using the right sources, you too can make the right decision for the sake of your health and utilize the services of one of the best medical facilities in the world.

Should You Get Facial Cosmetic Surgery?

People turn to cosmetic surgery for several reasons. Some want to improve their physical features, while others wish to retain their youth.

Cosmetic surgery is not only for people who feel they need it to look better, there are also many people out there who need it to get rid of the effects of a horrible accident.

Facial cosmetic surgery can certainly be a life-changing experience. It can help a person become more confident and raise their self-esteem, thereby enabling them to do better in life.

Before deciding to contact a cosmetic surgeon, ask yourself why exactly you need a cosmetic surgery and what your personal expectations are?

Once you have answers to these questions, consult a reliable surgeon to determine the best course of action for going about the whole process. It should be remembered here that one must have very realistic expectations about the outcomes of the surgical procedures involved.

When should you opt for facial cosmetic surgery?

Many people suggest that it is a good idea to choose cosmetic surgery only if you feel really need it and cannot do without it.

However, waiting until your skin starts sagging isn’t a good choice at all. Since younger people heal more quickly, you should go for plastic surgery at a relatively young age.

Facial cosmetic procedures are the most common types of plastic surgery. You’ll definitely need surgical assistance in improving your facial look if you have one, or more of the following problems:

1. Your lips are too big or thin.

Lip augmentation is a cosmetic surgery procedure that can help your lips look normal and attractive. However, if you are suffering from a sexually transmitted disease, like herpes, or any kind of allergy you will have to think twice before getting the procedure.

A good cosmetic surgeon will be able to help you by giving you the right advice about what needs to be done to solve your problem.

2. Flat or saggy cheeks

Cheek implants can help you appear more attractive if your cheeks are drooping or are completely flat

3. Weak or crooked chin

If your chin is not properly positioned, a cosmetic surgeon can easily fix the problem and align it with your nose to give your face a more symmetrical look.

4. Frown lines or heavy eyebrows

A brow-lift can help you get rid of frown lines, but there is a small risk that you might end up losing a minute amount of hair around the area that is operated on.

5. Droopy eyelids or puffy eyes

Blepharoplasty is a cosmetic surgery procedure which can help you get rid of droopy eyelids and other conditions that negatively affect the beauty of your eyes.

6. Crooked nose

Rhinoplasty is a common cosmetic surgical procedure which is used to make a person’s nose look attractive and fit in with the rest of a person’s facial features.

7. Sagging skin

Rhytidectomy is the procedure used to prevent a person’s neck skin from sagging. It easily removes wrinkles and makes a person appear younger.

8. Damage caused by accidents

Traffic accidents and incidents involving fire and toxic substance can often leave a person in need of cosmetic surgery.

Cosmetic surgery is the most effective way of restoring a person’s facial features to their original condition. If you have been physically scarred in an accident, it is strongly advised you visit a plastic surgeon to restore your natural appearance.

When Should You Consider a Forehead Lift?

Old age doesn’t have to bring you down. Yet effects of aging are inevitable, at least on a physical level. The sun and other natural elements play havoc at aging skin, causing loss of elasticity and appearance of unsightly marks and spots.

The downward pull of gravity does the rest – giving rise to frown lines, wrinkling (across the forehead) and heaviness around the eyebrows.

Effects of aging are inevitable; yet the first signs appear on your face, often the brow and forehead! Sometimes even people in their late twenties or thirties aren’t spared the cruelty. Men and women are increasingly turning to various cosmetic procedures to battle these signs of aging; one of them is a forehead lift.

What Is A Forehead Lift?

Paired with an eyelid lift or face lift, this cosmetic procedure can do wonders for an aging face especially if all worry areas are concentrated on the upper half of the face. Also known as a brow lift, this cosmetic procedure helps by:

  • Making individuals look younger
  • Rejuvenating appearance of forehead area
  • Improve appearance of a furrowed brow
  • Reduce wrinkles and creases around forehead and eye area

Understanding This Cosmetic Procedure in Detail

Depending on the procedure, the cosmetic surgeon will perform under local anesthetic or extensive surgeries requiring a day visit and stay. You will be required to stay longer if considering forehead lift with other complementary cosmetic procedures.

Endoscopic Forehead Lift

This type of surgery has changed over the years. Newer and better technologies and techniques are always replacing the previous ones, making the procedure less invasive.

Today many cosmetic surgeons in Cancun prefer the endoscopic forehead lift. Other commonly performed procedures are the pretrichial brow lift and the direct brow lift.

Forehead Lift Surgery – When to Consider This Option?

There are many reasons why people prefer this cosmetic procedure. In addition, people who need to fix scars left over from injury can also talk to us. When is the right time to consider this cosmetic surgery?

  • When low or sagging eyebrow position creates an angry, tired, sad or grumpy appearance
  • When you have deep horizontal creases across the forehead
  • When you have furrows or frown lines, between eyebrows or across top of your nose
  • When you have fatty tissue or excess skin hanging over your eyes

Can’t afford to pay top dollar? Most people turn to Mexico for affordable cosmetic surgery. Don’t know where to start looking for a certified and skilled cosmetic surgeon in Cancun or Tijuana? International Patient Facilitators will facilitate you!

Got Botched Cosmetic Surgery Results Back Home? Repair, Revise and Fix It

They say fame has a price. What they don’t specify is the price famous people have to pay for it.

Most people in Hollywood have reportedly had nips and tucks to give a lift to their careers. Even celebrity icons like Marilyn Monroe had a little work done!

Plastic, cosmetic and aesthetic procedures give people ‘the look’ they have always wanted. However, sometimes things go wrong.

Every year, more than 15.6 million cosmetic procedures take place. Reconstructive procedures are less in number, only about 5.6 million. There is a slight possibility your facelift or cheek implant might go horribly wrong, which is why you should research thoroughly before going under the knife.

Visit a Specialized Mexico Surgeon for Reconstructive Surgery/Revision

International Patient Facilitators will help you find an accredited Mexican cosmetic surgeon or practice that specializes in fixing botched surgery. It’s important to know not all botched cosmetic surgeries are due to surgeon’s mistake.

Some plastic and aesthetic surgeries are more complex than others, causing the body to place a natural limitation on result. You may have to look for a qualified cosmetic surgeon for the following surgeries gone wrong.

Swollen Lips

Many women have been inspired by the Kardasians, especially Kylie Jenner and Kim K. Many have had their lips injected with enhancers to emulate Kylie Jenner’s voluptuous lips! Swollen lips and a lopsided mouth are the result.

Asymmetric Breasts

Droopy breasts are the result of a botched breast augmentation procedure. Not only do droopy breasts ruin a body’s shape but can make life difficult regarding clothing. Cosmetic surgeons in Mexico are equipped to fix droopy breasts resulting from a previous breast augmentation procedure.

Wrinkling Breast Implants

This can be seen over the breast tissue, especially when you bend. What causes rippling and wrinkling of breast implants?

  • Under-filling/overfilling breast implant
  • Poor amount of breast tissue coverage
  • Wrong placement of breast implant

Botched Nose Job

Each year, nearly 15 million nose surgeries go wrong in the United States. In addition to cosmetic reasons, people dealing with breathing problems choose rhinoplasty revision. This is done by taking cartilage from the ear and skin (from scalp).

Leakage in Breast Implant

Implant leakage can cause fibrous tissue inflammation or formation of scar tissue. Here is how you will know of leakage in your breast implant:

  • Lumps
  • Swelling or pain in breast
  • Changes in breast shape or size
  • Hardening or softening

Paying for revision cosmetic surgery at a U.S. practice might put a dent in your wallet especially without medical insurance. International Patient Facilitators can help you find an affordable yet accredited cosmetic specialist to bring your body back to how it should have been. Fill the given medical form now.

Do You Know What You Should Eat After Your Cosmetic Surgery?

Eating healthy is important for a number of reasons. How else are we supposed to improve our immune system, maintain a healthy weight, and keep organs and tissues functioning at optimal levels?

Nutritious and well-balanced foods have the power to nourish and heal. Bottom line: it’s important to eat right especially after cosmetic surgery.

Eating Healthy After Surgery – Why Is It Important?

It helps support our body’s healing system. Other physiological functions are also positively affected including nutrient absorption, digestion, cell repair, and others. Eating healthy and well-balanced meals is equally important, not just for plastic and cosmetic surgery, but other surgical procedures as well.

For instance, foods like dark leafy greens and fatty fish help fight inflammation. Certain foods high and saturated fat can increase inflammation. Similarly good blood circulation is encouraged by oranges, ginger root, and garlic.

Foods to Eat After Cosmetic Surgery

The most important food groups you must have after cosmetic surgery are:

Fiber

Constipation is a common complaint after surgery. Qualified nutritionists at International Patient Facilitators instruct patients to eat plenty of fiber-laden foods. Prevent this complication by avoiding dehydrated or dried foods, processed foods, cheese and dairy products, red meats and sweets.

Protein

Amino acids found in protein helps with tissue regeneration and wound healing. Consuming lean protein such as chicken, seafood, and turkey following surgery can also aid in increasing strength and energy

You can also get your daily protein intake from eggs, nuts, beans and tofu. Add protein powder to drinks and fruit smoothies if having trouble getting enough from your diet.

Vitamins C & E

While all vitamins are important, vitamin C and E are especially helpful after surgery. Vitamin C aids in tissue repair and collagen re-growth, which speeds up healing and recovery time.

Excessive scarring and incision site complications are also minimized. An antioxidant, vitamin E defends the body against additional damage. Food sources are best at providing the necessary vitamins and minerals; try adding vitamin C dense citrus fruits, berries, bell peppers, and cruciferous vegetables (broccoli) to your diet. Get your daily dose of vitamin E from seeds, eggs, nuts, and some plant derived oils.
